Welcome to my first Trend Radar post. I fancy myself as a pretty decent trend forecaster. No one else knows this because I never say them out loud. So here is my true test. Actually publishing my trend forecasts and seeing if I’m right. To start us of I have:
physical media/2000’s tech
With the indie sleaze “revival” I see an increase in interest in physical media. With the hipsters it was vinyl collecting and hi-fi. This time around I think there will bee an uptick in items popular in the 2000s like cds and iPods. Especially with many musicians being against streaming I think collecting music and physical media will shift into the mainstream. As well an increase in interest in flip-phones, digicams, and camcorders. 4k video is out, we don’t want the realism, we live in a digital world, might as well look like it too.
beehive hairdo / elegant hairstyles
For years now I think hair trends have been pretty bland. The latest was the e-Girl front strands (which I did partake in pretty early on) But I think elegant hairstyles will be seen more and more, including the classic beehive. I think this will be a revival and blend of hipster subcultures (see twee, rockabilly). Beehives will be done but not as tamed and pristine, more edgy (but less exaggerated) a la Amy Winehouse.
Large bags (boho bags)
Move over tiny bags, it’s time for a pendulum swing. Forget carrying around a tiny purse with nothing in it. Now we are leaving the house with everything we own; keys phone, wallet, headphones (with wires),hand sanitizer, masks, magazines, books, cigarettes, makeup bag, film camera. All jingling around in an oversized leather bag a la the Olsen Twins.
And now… we wait.
